Ziemer Femtosecond Laser – Z-LASIK – IntraLase Technology
New Freedom Eye Center, led by San Diego LASIK provider, Dr. Richard Burns, features the latest blade-free vision correction technology, including the highly sophisticated Ziemer FEMTO LDV laser for Z-LASIK. The Ziemer laser is the latest IntraLASIK system from Switzerland that delivers unparalleled precision and accuracy during all-laser LASIK surgery.
How Does Z-LASIK Work?
The Ziemer FEMTO LDV laser applies a focused, low energy laser beam to the surface of the eye to create microscopic bubbles at a precise depth within the cornea. The laser energy is delivered through a lens that is held against the eye, causing the separation of a thin layer of the cornea and creating the LASIK flap.

The Ziemer FEMTO LDV laser offers tremendous control, thereby allowing Dr. Burns to create a LASIK flap of desired thickness, size, orientation and location that is unique to each patient’s eye and vision correction needs. The laser uses ultra-fast, tightly focused laser beams to create microscopic bubbles within the cornea. The bubbles disappear immediately after the flap is lifted, creating a smooth surface that is essential in the self-sealing process of the corneal flap after LASIK. The level of accuracy, customization ability and precision of the Ziemer FEMTO LDV laser makes the LASIK experience safer, more comfortable and speeds up the recovery process, with most patients achieving 20/20 vision or better the next day without flap complications.
When compared to other types of femtosecond lasers, the Ziemer FEMTO LDV laser offers the following benefits:
- Increased speed, safety and accuracy
- Increased likelihood of 20/20 vision or better
- Reduced risk of flap complications
- Reduced possibility of poor nighttime vision
While Z-LASIK is an excellent vision correction surgery, not everyone is a candidate for the procedure. Patients who have naturally thin corneas are at a higher risk for developing post-operative complications. For these patients, Dr. Burns offers PRK and LASEK, both of which do not require the creation of the corneal flap. He is also a superb San Diego RLE provider and frequently performs cataract surgery.
