Dr. Burns is a San Diego area ReStor specialist who serves patients from across Southern California, including Temecula, Hemet, Sun City and Murrieta. In the paragraphs below, Dr. Burns describes the ReStor lens technology and how this unique lens has helped many San Diego laser cataract surgery patients to see clearly for both near and distance vision. He also offers this procedure for refractive lens exchange (RLE).
Dr. Burns is proud to offer his patients the advanced AcrySof ReStor intraocular lenses (IOLs). He uses these implantable lenses to replace a patient's natural lenses that are removed during cataract surgery. While until recently cataracts patients could not imagine life without reading glasses or bifocals, the sophisticated ReStor IOLs allow many of them to achieve clear vision without any special eyewear. In fact, 95 percent of Dr. Burns' patients who undergo ReStor IOLs implantation procedure do not need glasses after this treatment!
ReStor IOLs can provide San Diego cataracts patients with excellent near and distance vision. This is because ReStor lenses have a multifocal component that allows the eyes to focus on objects at varying distances - up close, far away and everywhere in-between. This ability to change focus is a major advancement in refractive IOLs technology. Previously, IOLs provided only one focal point - distance - which left patients dependent on glasses for reading, computer work and many other everyday tasks. The ReStor technology allows Dr. Burns to provide his San Diego IOLs patients with quality vision both near and far, which helps them achieve freedom from glasses.

In addition to using ReStor IOLs to help cataracts patients achieve greater visual freedom, Dr. Burns also uses ReStor IOLs for the refractive lens exchange surgery (RLE). Similarly to cataract surgery, RLE procedure also involves the removal of the patient's natural lenses. The major difference between these two treatments is that the lenses removed during cataract surgery are clouded, while the lenses removed during RLE might have only minor defects. For the latter procedure, the main reason for replacing patients' natural lenses with ReStor IOLs is to reduce patients' dependence on glasses and/or contacts. The implanted lenses become a permanent part of the eyes, improving patients' vision without the need for special eyewear.
Dr. Burns sometimes recommends and performs refractive lens exchange with ReStor IOLs for patients who do not qualify for LASIK in San Diego. For example, patients with large pupils and/or thin corneas often are not candidates for LASIK. However, they can achieve results similar to those provided by LASIK through the RLE procedure. Dr. Burns has multiple years of experience with this sophisticated treatment, during which time he has helped numerous San patients achieve their vision correction goals by providing them with ReStor or Crystalens IOLs.
