CustomVue™ LASIK in San Diego – Dr. Burns
Serving patients from San Diego, Temecula, Hemet, Sun City, Murrieta
Individualized LASIK with CustomVue™ Technology
In order to provide his laser eye surgery patients with the best possible vision correction results, New Freedom Eye Center features some of the latest laser equipment, including the sophisticated VISX STAR S4 excimer laser platform with CustomVue™ technology. Dr. Burns uses this surgical equipment to perform all LASIK procedures, as well as PRK and LASEK treatments. He recommends the latter two procedures for certain San Diego patients who do not qualify for LASIK due to corneal scars, large pupils, thin corneas or other factors.
Dr. Burns begins each laser eye surgery by using the advanced WaveScan WaveFront technology, which allows him to create a map of the patient’s eye detailing irregularities that often go unnoticed in traditional LASIK scans. Each patient’s eye has a unique curvature, similar to the uniqueness of a fingerprint. The CustomVue™ system provides a highly precise measurement of the eye’s “fingerprint”, creating a customized laser profile to correct each eye. After creating a tiny flap in the cornea, Dr. Burns uses this profile to program the excimer laser, which gently reshapes the patient’s cornea so that it can refract light rays properly. As a result, our LASIK patients receive the highest quality customized laser treatment, referred to as iLASIK.
Increased Safety with CustomVue™ Technology
The sophisticated CustomVue™ technology incorporates several features that allow Dr. Burns to provide laser eye treatments that are not only extremely precise but also very safe. For example, the system’s ActiveTrak 3-D Active Eye Tracking Technology follows the minuscule eye movements during surgery and adjusts the laser automatically. In addition, CustomVue™ also includes the advanced Iris Registration technology – the first FDA-approved, fully automated method of registering the iris and aligning the laser beam accordingly.
While CustomVue™ LASIK procedure can help many patients achieve their vision correction goals, this procedure is not appropriate for everyone. For example, patients with extreme nearsightedness, farsightedness and/or astigmatism usually are not candidates for LASIK. Patients with corneal scars, large pupils and/or thin corneas also are often unable to undergo LASIK. For these patients, Dr. Burns offers the sophisticated RLE procedure. During this surgery, he removes the patient’s natural lenses and replaces them with artificial lens implants, such as ReStor or Crystalens. These leading-edge IOLs allow patients to see both near and far without the help of glasses. In addition to serving as an excellent LASIK alternative, refractive IOLs can also help cataracts patients restore crisp vision at all distances without glasses.
